2. List the elements that produced similar colors in the flame test. Lithium, strontium, and calcium all produced a similar red color, while barium and manganese produced a similar apple/yellow green color and lead, bismuth, and arsenic all produced a bluish color. 3. Explain why different elements produced different colors in the flame test. Different elements and crystalline salts have distinct colors when burned over a flame. The colors are used to identify chemical compounds and the color produced by each element is the result of different valance electrons in their specific orbitals.
