Antibiotics are intended to eradicate or treat bacterial infections and should only be used when evidence of a bacterial infection is present. Overuse of antibiotics has led to urgent global issues related to antibiotic resistance and several initiatives have been developed to promote appropriate use of antibiotics (cdc.gov,2019. I do recommend limited use of antibiotics with children as well as other populations because when not warranted or appropriate, antibiotics can cause more harm than good. According the CDC website, antibiotics are not recommended for the following respiratory conditions, asthma, the common cold, Bronchiolitis, as well as other nonspecific upper respiratory infections (cdc.gov, 2019). Using national guidelines and evidence-based literature, develop an Asthma Action Plan for this patient.
