Working With Communities—Part 2 Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. – Nelson Mandela The preamble to the Ethical Standards for Human Service Professionals states that the values of the profession include “respecting the dignity and welfare of all people; promoting self- determination; honoring cultural diversity; advocating for social justice; and acting with integrity, honesty, genuineness and objectivity” (NOHS, 2015). No matter what cultural background you come from, there will always be clients from backgrounds with which you have little knowledge or experience. Staying abreast of issues populations face or learning about values and practices that cultures and communities hold in order to ethically serve clients will be a lifelong journey. This week you continue your work within the community setting, focusing on various ethical issues related to community work with heterogeneous groups. You also culminate your Immersion
