1. Identify your chosen artifact. U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial 2. Describe the artifact in detail using any applicable senses mentioned in the overview. The memorial is very large in size. It has a dark granite base with a rock slope. Atop the rocks, there are six Marine soldiers and United States flag. The memorial depicts the six Marines setting the flag on top of Mount Suribachi in Iwo Jima, Japan. On the granite base, one side has “IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THE UNITES STATES MARINE CORPS WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES TO THEIR COUNTRY SINCE 10 NEVEMBER 1775”. On the other side of the memorial, there is a wreath with two strands of ribbon on the bottom. In the middle of the wreath it states “UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE”. The left strand of the ribbon has “SEMPER” and the right strand of ribbon has “FIDELIS”. 3. What are the elements of the artifact that you believe are most important to how you experience it?
