Romanticism Movement of American Literature 1. There is much controversy over the dates of this time period. The truth is that once Romanticism begins, it never truly disappears. Modern day writers still follow the traditions established during the Romanticism movement. 2. A broad range of the dates of the movement is 1800-1900(tell t he date- on test). The foundations of the movement begin between 1781-1850. The strength of the movement occurs between 1820-1865. 3. The Idealistic values of the nation grow to a new height because people feel invincible after their defeat of the British to claim freedom. 4. The Romanticism movement focuses on individual concerns and the matters of the heart.( def .- of romanticism ) 5. There are several basic elements that emerge in this movement:(KNOW THESE) a. A love of nature b. A love of country c. A fascination with the supernatural. d. Stress emotion rather than reason e. Remoteness of settings in time and space.
