TASK 3 1 Sharing Genetic Information I am of the opinion that my genome is a highly private issue and I should not be made to share this information with anybody who does not have a legitimate reason to need to know. I generally treat it like I would a mole in an area that isn’t normally visible: Some people may see it, some people may need to know about it, but most people will not need to know and will not care. Who do you think should know what is on your genome? When it comes to who should know what is on my genome, I would approach it on a need to know basis. Does it benefit me in any way that this person is aware of the issues I may be facing due to my genome? As an example, I am genetically predisposed to a higher weight than the average person. It may have been advantageous for my family to have had that knowledge early on, so that I would not have become overweight in my childhood. It may also have been beneficial for other organizations to be aware so that my parents could
