Executive summary The channel tunnel is a rail tunnel which is 50.5 Km which connects the cities of Folkestone, Kent of UK and Coquelles of France. The Channel has three tunnels which are under the seabed of English Channel at a distance of 50.5 Km. the two channels are full sized with a diameter of 7.6 meters and the smaller one 4.8 meters which is in between two major tunnels. The design is carried to reduce the distance and cost of travel between the cities. The two large Channels are used for railway in and out, the middle tunnel which is smaller in diameter is to be built for emergency escape purposes when an event of disaster or accident. The project was first initiated on 17 th November 1973 at Chequers by then British and French presidents Edward Heath and Georges Pompidou. The objective of the project is to improve the transport quality from Britain to France by linking both the countries through tunnel, increase the transportation frequency between the countries. The project is expected to be delivered by 31 st march 2023. Various benefits of the project are a fast, reliable and comfortable transportation of passengers using rail link at a low cost. The tunnel also provides the passengers to transport their goods and vehicles between the countries.
