2 Sociology Matters This chapter, Chapter 2, went into overview of socialization, culture and the influence thy have on society and people. The discussion question that I am choosing the talk about is “what people, groups, or social institutions have been particularly important in helping you to define who you are?” (Schaefer, 2019, Chapter 2). Family is a major influence in my life and the earliest influence that I can remember; which is the same for most people. It is a social institution. When I was young, I was raised by my aunt and cousins; instead of my mother and having siblings. Because I spent so much time with them instead of my mother, I began to see them as my immediate influence. Everything from how I walked and talked, to how I dressed and the activities I enjoyed were influenced by them. They taught my loyalty, discipline, work ethic, cleanliness, friendliness, compassion and many more valuable traits I still carry today. Growing up, they taught me the value of learning new things and being open to new possibilities. They provided me love which taught me to be able to love
