Plop fall the Plum Explanation/Theme: In the first stanza after starting the repeating line about falling plums, the seven suitors are before her, She says “Let those gentlemen that would court me” which reveals this poem is about picking a suitable partner for marriage. Next, she says “Come while it is lucky” attempting to narrow the selection down. In this case she is likely talking about their personality, wanting someone to be her on ideal`s for a man. In the second stanza after repeating the opening line “Plop fall the Plum”, We can see that she has now narrowed her suitors down to three. She repeats that many men want her but having narrowed down and the “Come before it`s to late” she still looking for the suitable man. In the final stanza, after the repeated line “Plop fall the Plum”, She now says “In shallow basket we lay them” tells that her suitors are being narrowed down. She repeats “Any gentlemen
