What is weed science? Weeds are one of the biggest problems that agriculture faces.
Weeds are also underestimated and underexamined. Weed Science is a discipline that is
focused on classifying plants and weeds apart, effect of weeds on human activities, and their
management on the effect of the environment. How is ethics relevant to agriculture and weed
science? In Zimdahl’s text it states, “weed science and, by implication, all agricultural
disciplines, is deficient because its implicit values are unexamined, and its operative values
are purely instrumental” (109). Agricultural scientists say that production and profit are
subordinate to primary values and these issues are just as important as well to be able to meet
human needs.
Zimdahl has suggested that production is one of the dominating factors in weed
science and agriculture. I feel that is accurate due to how fast agriculture has advanced with
production due to the introduction of technology. In Zimdahl’s text it states that, “advocates
