1 Mid-Term Exam Study Guide for Geography 1000A 2019-20Our mid-term exam will be held in tutorials on Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29. Students who arrive late cannot not be given extra time for the exam, so please be punctual. Note that different tutorial groups will have different exam questionsFormat: The exam consists of two parts: two short answer questions and an essay question. For both, you must draw explicitly on course material(lectures, readings, & tutorials) and answer in your own words. •Four of the short answer questions listed below will be on the exam. You will be expected to answer two of them. •Two of the essay questions listed below will be on the exam. You will be expected to answer one of them. You will have 50 minutesfor the entire exam (which leaves you roughly 25 minutes for the two short answer questions and 25 minutes for the essay question). Strong short answerswill contain a definition as well as demonstrating a solid understanding of the significance of the concept or topic, using examples where appropriate. They should be one paragraph in length and should not be longer than 1 page of (regular size) double-space writing. Strong essay answerswill demonstrate a solid understanding of key course themes and concepts and will be supported by detailed examples. Be sure to explain each concept as you introduce it. The essay should be 2-3 pages of (regular size) double-space writing and should not be longer than 3.5 pages. All answers must be in essay form. This means you must write full sentences and full paragraphs. Consider writing a brief outline of your answers before you begin writing them. This will help you organize your thoughts and write a more coherent answer. Your outline will not be marked. You are allowed to bring in one 8.5x11 page of notes(single-sided, hand-written).
