Br OH H H H Cl H H Cl H OCH 3 F H H cis trans trans trans H H H H both groups above H's 3. (6 pts) If cyclopentane were planar, it would have bond angles of 108˚, very near ideal tetraderal geometry (109.5˚). Describe the conformation that cyclopentane actually adopts and briefly explain why it prefers this arrangement. Cyclopentane adopts a conformation that has the ring slightly puckered. This is sometimes referred to as an envelope geometry. When one of the CH2 groups moves out of the plane occupied by the other four carbons, some H-H eclipsing is avoided. The blue H’s shown at right are no longer fully eclipsing the adjacent red H’s.
