Esther Posada La 11 Honors Mr. Niz 1 October 2018 Seat belts How many people wear seat belts just to avoid a ticket? There are plenty of deaths caused by not wearing seat belts in the car. Do not wait until after the car crash to wear your seat belt. It may not just be a car crash; you might not live through it or get serious injuries to your body to the point you cannot drive anymore. Wearing a seat belt every time you are in a vehicle is an effective way to save lives. It only takes two seconds to help protect yourself from dangerous situations on the road. Wearing seat belts has been proven to save lives. For example, a Camden County Sheriff’s Office deputy had his life saved by wearing his seat belt. He was in a shocking high- speed chase of a murder suspect, whom was driving at 110mph, and his patrol car rolled over nine times. “The injured deputy returned to duty six months after he recovered from multiple contusions and a serious shoulder injury, but it could have been worse. Capt. Larry Bruce, a sheriff's spokesman, said the deputy would have certainly been thrown from the vehicle if he wasn't wearing a seat belt” (Jackson).
