ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY2just one year people spend over seven hundred thirty hours on their phones. Net neutrality is a system of regulations stating that Internet Service Providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products orwebsites. The FCC, Federal Communications Commission, is an independent agency of the United States government created statute to regulate interstate communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable. The decision of the FCC affects the United States tremendously. This research is important because it can change the way Americans live and receive information. Through researching the topic one can come to the conclusion that repealingthe system of regulations causes a disturbance between Internet Service Providers and consumers’ support towards politicians. Democrat and Republican politicians’ opinions towards the FCC affect how they are viewed by consumers and Internet Service Providers. The majority of Republicans and Democrats are for net neutrality and believe the FCC should not regulate internet speed or allow certain content to be viewed by certain people. This source shows that Republicans and Democrats support net neutrality. This perspective is an accredited source written by a women with great knowledge in politics. This source is examiningthe support of Republican voters to their politicians depending on their views of network neutrality. “85% of Republicans and 81% of Democrats oppose to allowing Internet Service Providers to charge web and cable companies a fee to deliver their content to customers more quickly” (Edwards 2015). Haley Edwards reports in TIME magazine that more Republican voters oppose net neutrality and approve of the government action that is being taken to ensure that ISPs treat all content on the Internet the same. (Edwards 2015). Internet Service Providers are large corporations that regulate and provide internet connection for people across America. Ms. Edwards also states that the majority of Republican voters tended to not care whether or not
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY3a politician was for or against net neutrality. It is studied that Republican voters are more likely to approve of the FCC regulations rather than Democrats, this is because there are more Republican voters who support the FCC. Democratic President Barack Obama enacted the net neutrality regulations in 2015. This required ISPs to regulate and allow certain content to be viewed by the people paying for it; the regulations give ISPs the ability to control the Internet. Other politicians did not support Obama at the time. Because of President Obama’s views on net neutrality, it has affected how voters support not only Democratic politicians, but also Republican politicians (Edwards 2015).
