He established this type of government by weakening the general assembly. The absolute monarchy shifted its power to a parliament type government. When an ultimate ruler will rule with no one to challenge his throne, it is referred to as absolutism. Louis XIV was a very power-hungry, successful absolutist ruler. The same style of government was tried in England as James I and Charles I was the ruler but ultimately failed. An absolutism government succeeded in France but not in England due to social, political, and economic factors in each individual country when absolutism was introduced.
