Unformatted text preview: Week 2: Race and Diversity Alex Weissman, Eze Ekeogu, Rahul Venkatesh Race There are two major types of discrimination that occur within an organization Overt discrimination – blatantly obvious disrespect based on stereotypes Structural Discrimination – example from lecture was Isaiah Thomas and the Knicks- thousands of federal, state, and local complaints African American men and women each have significantly lower average incomes than Caucasian Men- African American men make 79% of the income of Caucasian Men- African American women make 60% the income of Caucasian Men This goes for Latino Americans as well, with Latino American men making 81% of the income of White men and Latino American women making 65% the income of white men. Asian Americans fall into a similar category in that although they make similar amounts of money to Caucasian men, it takes them more educational training and more work hours to reach that point.
