Environmental factor-mutation in melanin genes, sunlight, uv light form sunlamps, xrays Physiological factors-Jaundice, amount of carotene from diets, constriction of dermal blood vessels, amount of oxygen in the blood vessels 5. What is a melanocyte? Melanocyte are the only cells that can produce melanin. They lie in the stratum basale of the epidermis 6. Describe where to find melanocytes. They are found in the stratum basale of the epidermis 7. Explain how melanocytes respond to UV radiation.
