Atoms make up elements 3. Distinguish between atomic number and atomic weight. Atomic number is the identity of an element and how many protons it has. Atomic Weight is the number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus 4. Define isotope. Isotopes are atoms with the same atomic number but different atomic weight Different amount of neutrons 5. Explain why a complete atom is electrically neutral. A complete atom is neutral because it has the same number of protons as electrons, which cancels each other out making the charge neutral. 6. Explain how electrons are distributed within the electron shells of atoms. 2 on the first ring 8 on the 2 nd and 3 rd ring 7. Explain why some atoms are chemically inert.
