Tuesday, October 23, 2018 PSYCH- chapter 10 Theories of Personality - Psychoanalytic Perspective • Focused Freud’s view • Personality is shaped by unconscious conflicts - What would these unconscious conflicts be betweens? - Freud had three different conflicts • ID - Literally translates to it - Deals with your most unconscious impulses - Freud thought: based on sex and aggression - 100% unconscious - Develop when born • Super ego - Translates to I - Think of as your conscious - Mostly conscious but partly unconscious - Says we can do just what we want to do - Realize there are rules to follow - Denies the instant gratification - Develops as you grow as a result of parenting • Ego - Caught in between, trying to balance good and evil - Have to find a way of giving both sides what they want - Psychosexual development 1
