1. According to researchers, what are the potential consequences of tablet technology on the physical, cognitive and social development of children?2. Let’s pretend you have a friend with a 1 year old and a 5 year old. She asks you for your opinion as to whether she should allow her kids to use her iPad to plays educational games. Compose a message to her with what you think are the pros and cons along with your recommendations. Your response should be 2-3 paragraphs long and should outline some of the things you learned from the discussion resources.1. The effects of tablet technology on children have not been studied in depth at this point but growing concerns that come with any new technology have fueled research into it. Children have alwayswatched and mimicked adults to learn something in which they don’t know. Technologies such as tablets and touchscreen phones have become a normal way for adults to conduct many activities. It is only natural children find the want to use them as well, but is it safe for very young children to constantly engage in that activity while still developing? Studies have found this activity to be both useful and hazardous. It depends on the length of the use and the types of activities it is used for. Responsibility is required for an adult in regards to childhood use of tablets.A major reason for parents to hand their children a tablet is that it is notoriously a great distraction to allow the adult to keep the children behaved while they perform a task. Research proves that this is definitely the case as children are shown to put all their attention towards what they do on the tablet and almost forget about anything else. Research shows this can have side effects on children. A special done by Nightline(Nightline, 2014) claims that this kind of activity raises distractions and lowersother sort of activities that are necessary. A study showed how children became engrossed in the tablets and wouldn’t even respond to their names being said to them several times while the one child that wasn’t on the tablet was aware and answered immediately. The negative effects are that children are not social, their muscle and motor skills are not being challenged, and developed while doing this and they are developing in different ways when it comes to their attention span. An article from Doctor Jim Taylor (Taylor, 2012) points out that attention is developed a certain way based upon our needs and when technology is overused a person develops an attention geared towards that. This attention is moresuited for quick pieces of information always changing and moving making it harder for a child to sit and concentrate on something completely. Without restrictions on screen time a child will just find it more difficult to deal with a world full of distraction.
