Benedict Arnold A hero or a villain, no doubt that Arnold Benedict is history's most infamous traitor. Arnold Benedict served with the American Army and was considered “top of his class” out of the generals at that time. He would befriend George Washington, Capture Fort. Ticonderoga and Saratoga and help to secure Lake Champlain from the British. Unfortunately, America would suffer the
loss of Arnold to the British after Arnold was paid a hefty sum to join the British and help to aid the them in their conquestof America. How did Arnold contribute to both sides? Was Arnold more helpful or harmful to the American side of the war? In document 5, Gen. Horatio Gates praises Arnold for his excellence in preparations for Lake Champlain and his contribution to the American navy. This was before the Battle Of Saratoga in which Arnold and Gates are agreeing and not at good terms with one
another. “This is exceedingly pleasing to me, as he has a perfect knowledge of maritime affairs, and is, besides, a most deserving and gallant officer.” Good for him, Arnold deserveshis praise. He is the best officer I’ve seen when making strategic naval decisions. Benedict Arnold was no slacker when it came to naval warfare and was seen as an ace-up-the-sleeve for both the Americans and British. Arnold was a skilled naval General, who was an extremely valuable asset to the American Navy during preparations for the
battle of Lake Champlain. Richard Ketchum, Arnolds right hand man during the war, praises Arnold as a Fearless, honorable warrior. Ketchum; however, could be considered slightly bias due to the fact he wasso close to Arnold. “Utterly a fearless and daring warrior, a natural leader, with stamina and determination that allowed nothings to stand in his way.” Arnold, a fearless and daring warrior, a natural born leader with stamina and determination alike no other.
