Running head: THE DAUNTING EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA 2This essay argues that “Fake News” on social media is creating an outburst of negative posts by users which results in social media “wars”. The word “fake news” has been around for what seems like an eternity. Many started using the term after they heard President Trump use it, whilereferring to multiple liberal media outlets. Many social media users use the word fake news to describe a political candidate or someone involved with politics in a negative way, trying to get their point across on why they dislike that candidate. This term has caused social media users to argue and fight with others as if it is right and justified to do so. Through this many people are using very profane language while defending their side of the social media “war”. The paper identifies three main issues and the rhetoric used with the term. The first issue it discusses is the ability to infuriate people to retaliate to other people’s posts. The second point this paper ex-plores is how this term on social media can create madness and what seems like war at times. The third and final issue this essay establishes is the continuous profanity and cursing seen throughout social media users. The term fake news has one way or another impacted everyone onsocial media, as these posts are mainly the opinion of each user, viscous attacks to one party or another, or harsh comments back and forth to one another. This paper analyzes these issues and the particular negative effects social media causes with the use of the term fake news. Keywords: Fake News, Social Media, Rhetoric, Donald Trump, Tweets, Fake News Me-dia, CNN, News Bias’s, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, User, Profanity, News, Comments. The Daunting Effect of Social Media
Running head: THE DAUNTING EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA 3Have you ever wondered why phrases such as “on fleek”, “cash me outside” and “you mad bro?” become a trending phenomenon? Social media is a powerful platform for others to in-troduce new ideas, post their thoughts, and create terminology. For example, tweets go viral be-cause users have the ability to share a stranger’s idea or perspective by simply retweeting it. Other ideas and terminology become famous because celebrities from the movies we watch and music we listen to in the car share ideas or even create trends. Sometimes these ideas can even come from political figures that hold authority within a country. Because the term fake news has become a popular term to negatively label media sources and their bias towards certain political parties, this trending phrase has transferred to social media platforms in order to not only label individual users adversely, but also produce an unfiltered, hateful energy.
