4 CHAPTER 1 OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL ENVIRONMENT Competence The trainee should have the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the Organizational Environment in Procurement and supply 1.1 Definition of Environment An organizational environment is composed of forces or institutions surrounding an organization that affect performance, operations, and resources (Rieple & Singh, 2010). 1.1. Factors influencing the organizational environment By the word “environment” we understand the surrounding or conditions in which a particular activity is carried on. And we know that organization is a social entity that has a hierarchical structure where all necessary items are put together and they act within it to reach the collective goal. Organization or more specifically business organization and it activates are always being affected by the environment.
