Kindergarten is a tricky age group when it comes to technology implementation within the classroom. Some students come in with a wealth of knowledge on how to use tablets, smartphones and/or laptops. Other students have never seen a tablet, iPad, computer or smartphone in their life. It is this varying range mixed with the limited technology within our school that makes it challenging for me to implement technology into my classroom. Within my school we have one computer laptop cart and a collection of iPads. This does not give me many options when it comes to developing my student’s minimal technology skills. Even though it is a challenge to share the technology that I do have, one technology tool that I use in my classroom is the Teach Your Monster to Read website and app. This app is a wonderful way for my studentsto gain tablet and/or laptop skills all while building up their letter-sound recognition, work on phonics, phonemic awareness, sight word recognition, and comprehension of verbal directions.
