1 The Timberland Company Change Paper Outline Introduction Timberland LLC is an American company that retails outdoor wear, especially footwear. Its products are marketed towards consumers who lean towards outdoor use. Its main supplier is Horween Leather Company, which supplies Timberland with leather shells that are used to make the footwear. Headquartered in Stratham, New Hampshire, the company also operates in other offices around the globe. The company has expanded over the years, acquiring a Welsh clothing company known as Howies in 2007, merging with VF Corporation in 2011, and then selling Howies to its management in 2012, with VF at the helm of this deal. All these mergers and acquisitions prompted several changes in the company, with the staff and employees forced to adapt to these changes and implement new ways to deal with the changes in management and organizational culture. Some of the major leaders who have instigated or overseen change within the Timberland company and the footwear and clothing industry as a whole include Rick LaTouch, Senior Manager of Leather Development at Timberland in 2005, John Fleming, then Walmart's chief merchandising officer, and Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia who were the key figures in spearheading sustainable change within the clothing industry. Jeff Swartz, the current Timberland CEO, and its brand President Stewart Whitney have also been at the forefront with their significant role in the merger with VF Corporation, which brought a significant turnaround that reflected on their improving sales.
