Chapter 8: Rotational Equilibrium and Rotational Dynamics I) Torques ( ) cause angular acceleration τ A) If a force is applied to a door three factors determine the effectiveness of the force: 1) Magnitude of the force 2) Position of application of the force 3) Angle at which the force is applied B)  = rFsin τ θ 1) R = length of the position vector 2) F = magnitude of the force applied perpendicular to the position 3)  = angle b/t r and f Θ C) Only consider forces perpendicular to axis of rotation D) Counterclockwise is positive, clockwise is negative E) When two or more torques act on an object at rest, the torques are added 1) If net torque isn’t zero, the object starts rotating at an increasing rate 2) If the net torque is zero, the objects rate of rotation stays the same F) The rate of rotation of an object doesn’t change unless the object is acted on by a net torque G) Lever arm: perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to a line drawn along the direction of  the force 1) D = rsin θ 2) Has to do with the magnitude r of the position vector  r H) The value of a torque depends on the chosen axis of rotation, which must stay consistent for all  calculations II)

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
