Whole Foods Market: The Deutsche Bank Report History: Whole Foods is a multinational supermarket chain that was introduced back in 1978 and went public in 1992, the company’s main advantage or “unique point” was its organic food segment where it can be considered as the leaders in that regard. Whole Foods had a superb growth in the 1990s and its strategy for growth had been to acquire similar businesses alongside expanding their own stores. However, the grocery industry which Whole Foods has been operating is considered historically as a low-growth industry, on top of that, Whole Foods has been swarmed with competitors each year that would eat away their profit and market share, moreover, Whole Foods has been facing competition in their main business (Organic Food), and other pressures such as the legitimacy of the concept of organic food and the public perception of Whole Foods being far more expensive than others.
