Banalewicz 2 Sexuality in The Visions of the Daughters of Albion Sexuality in The Visions of the Daughters of Albion The Visions of the Daughters of Albion is a poem written and produced by William Blake in 1793. The narrative centers on the critical character known as Oothoon and her sexual experience. Oothoon is madly in love with a man called Theotormon, a holier-than-thou character depicted as a chaste man. Unfortunately, one-day, Oothoon is raped by Bromion. After the damage, both the rapist and her lover Theotormon do not want to be associated with her. Bromion is a representation of passionate men in society who cannot control their lust. The poem depicts Oothoon as a woman in the same community who cannot control her sexuality. Generally, the theme of sexuality is quite central in William Blake’s Visions of the Daughters of Albion. The poem ‘Visions of the Daughters of Albion’ revolves around the rape of Oothoon, who is the poem’s leading character. Characteristically, Oothoon is an innocent virgin girl who has intensely fallen in love with Theotormon. On her to visit her boyfriend Theotormon, Oothoon has a violent encounter with her secret admirer Bromion who repeatedly rapes her. Afterward, the rapist dislikes her while Theotormon, on the other hand, is unable to cope with the embarrassing circumstances of her lover. In effect, Theotormon puts in shackles his lover and Bromion and grieves over the loss of his partner. Chained together away in a cave, Oothoon laments over her sorry situation even as the three of them ponders about the causes and repercussions associated with the rape (Blake, W., Keynes, G., & Trianon Press., William Blake
