The US Civil Rights Movement XXII. Little Rock Nine (1957) - Central High School We are three years out of desegregation of schools, and activists see that much isn’t happening. So they go and pick a place to try and desegregate. Now, it’s difficult in this case bc the majority of the people didn’t want to desegregate, and convincing parents and kids that wanted to go through this. With Little Rock, they got nine kids to enroll into Central High School, and their population was 2,000 whites. Most of them don’t want them there, and there’s also mobs of people that follow them. First day of school that year was September 2nd, and the governor at the time was the oh so racist Faubus. Knowing it’s dangerous to go through the front, they start sneaking into the back, which freaks the white people out bc oh no! Black kids are in there! So this mob starts working it’s way onto the school grounds and they’re determined to get in and remove those children. Once again, the CR leaders sneak them out again and they leave bc they would’ve been killed. At this point, the one person who is failing in this is Eisenhower. As mentioned, he’s been lazy with CR stuff and he’s been president since Brown vs. Board. So he decides that he’ll actually have to
