Deja Pollard 10/21/19 Pd. 2 Chromatography Lab Report Plant Pigment Paper Chromatography Lab Report Purpose The purpose of this lab was to identify the various pigments present in leaves and to observe the movement of the pigments in the solvent. Background Research Paper chromatography uses paper and a solvent of some kind to separate and help identify molecules, as well as pigments, from cells. The solvent is able to move up the paper by means of cohesion and adhesion. Some pigments are able to dissolve in a particular solvent, which allows the solvent to carry the pigment further up the paper. Not all pigments are as soluble because the rate that it moves is dependent on the degree that the pigment and solvent are attracted to each other. If a pigment does not move up the chromatography paper, then we are able to tell that the pigment was not soluble in the solvent at all. Color Movement In Paper Chromatography Conclusion Questions 1. Chromatography paper, solvent, leaves, and Vis-a-Vis markers.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
