Running head: ASSESSING THE VALUE AND IMPACT OF CPOE 2 Abstract University Health Care System (UHCS) is a large community medical center. UHCS al- ways wants to put patients first, because of this electronic health record (EHR) have been slowly integrated into all facilities. The community includes three hospitals and two outpatient centers. The goals of this integration would include optimize patient safety, reduce risk for errors, and standardize care. Striving to keep these goals in mind, it is of the utmost importance that physi- cians and administrative leadership be on the same page with implementation and overall out- come goals. Training must be completed by all teammates and overall progress updates must be given.

Running head: ASSESSING THE VALUE AND IMPACT OF CPOE 3 Case Study Week One: Assessing the Value and Impact of CPOE Computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems are helping integrate the admission process with the needs of providers all over America. The technology allows for records to be stored and backed up. It also allows doctors to share vital information about patients within an integrated health care system. As these systems are integrated into new facilities it is key to en- sure that the cost and benefits allow for the facilities to use the systems with a positive return on investment. Also, it needs to be assured that each teammate is well aware of how the systems work and ensure timely training. In order to follow the steps of implementation there must be an ordered step in place and data collected to ensure a positive move forward in the health care set- ting. Its ultimately up to the clinical staff as well as administrative leaders to achieve the goals
