Maddie Douglas Math 120 Kristen Hess Logic Writing Task This past week I watched the documentary No Impact Man for my environmental science class. It sparked a lot of conversation about climate change and what we can do to reduce our own carbon footprint. It was Friday evening when my family was out for dinner and the topic of reducing our impact on the planet came up. I was sharing the ideas that were spoken about in the documentary when the topic of recycling came up. I lived in California for two years and had gotten so used to recycling I was confused when I came to Colorado and there was no blue bins anywhere. That was when one of my sisters chimed in and said, “Most of climate change could be reversed if everyone would just recycle.” At first everyone just nodded the comment off. But I realized pretty quickly that this was an invalid statement, and a logical fallacy. The comment my sister made, “Most of climate change could be reversed if everyone would just recycle” is a logical fallacy known as, a Hasty Generalization. A Hasty Generalization
