Johnson 1 Dalton Johnson Prof. Reed Hist 1301 20211 23 June 2019 Interview for History 1301 For my interview I chose to ask my grandfather, James W. Ballard about his life and the historical moments he has lived through. James, or as he goes by in my family “Peepaw” has lived an amazing life. He married the love of his life at age 19, raised two children, served as a field medic in the Vietnam war. The stories my grandad has to tell are never ending, and the smiles they bring to my face go from ear to ear every time we talk. After sitting down to talk to him about his earliest memories of major events in history, he told me that the civil rights movement that started in 1953 was one of the first major events he remembers from his childhood. Growing up in Texas, segregation was a very prominent thing in his early life, up until 1954 when the Brown v. Board of Education outlawed segregated public education facilities. As a kid my grandad was a huge fan of the Peanuts comic strips that started being printed in newspapers around the nation on October 3 rd , in the year 1950. Moving on to the second question, I learned that my grandparents met a young age, dated for several years and got married in 1964. At the time of their wedding, my grandfather
