Mauritian Culture versus Canadian Culture. When I was younger and lived in Mauritius, I always thought women were responsible for taking care of every household chore, while men went to work. Wives were expected to undertake everything from taking care of the children, cleaning the home, cooking. Once their husbands came back from work, women were expected to cater to them. But this all changed when I moved to Canada, I was shocked when I saw that both men and women were working together to make their home presentable. I discovered that culture played an important role in the upbringing of a person due to different values and norms that are equally and unequally distributed between men and women. This cultural difference can be identified in the Mauritian and Canadian culture. Kids depend constantly on their parents until they turn 19 and parents have a very hard job to do as children continuously need help with something. In Mauritius, it is the mother’s duty to take care of the children. They are responsible for taking their children to their afterschool activities, to their doctor’s appointments and to their tutoring once they are entering grade 4. In contrast, Canadian parents that are free will be taking their kids to the appropriate destination. For example, when I was
