SURNAME 1 Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Date Media Responsibility Media as a means of communication has evolved generally due to the growth in technology around the world. Journalists use the available platforms to communicate information and also inform the people on the things happening around them whether good or bad. People rely on the news offered therefore it is very important not to give out the wrong information to the public as news. The 2005 film Good Night and Good Luck, and Red Hollywood have an informative and educative theme about media and society. The film Good Night and Good Luck demonstrates elements such as social responsibility theories and mass society, whereas the film Red Hollywood that focused on blacklisted actors, director and even writers who “were also crafting a political leftist critique about the effects of capitalism, class and societal racism and sexism on the lives of everyday people through an array of social problem films, beginning in the late 1940s to the early 1950s,” Journalists are tasked with the responsibility of offering true and exact news concerning a thing or individual, therefore they are required to stand on their words and statements in case there is a conflict due to the information he or she passed. This paper is going to analyze the concept of society and social responsibility theories to determine the best action a journalist should take when faced with a conflict about the news he or she intends to pass to the public.

SURNAME 2 Good Night and Good Luck film were released in 2005, based on broadcast journalist, Edward Murrow. He worked with the help of six members to challenge the actions of Senator McCarthy which were regarded as unethical. This conflict has a major impact on American media History as it was made around the same time George W. Bush was president and had advocated for a war with Iraq which had a major impact on the nation. The film can be considered as a timeless film that always signifies the importance of mass media and media theories. The film began with a speech from Ed Murrow at a banquet, the banquet was about the censorship in media and the effects it carries over the society and audience in general. Murrow speech introductory speech talks about the owners and people who control the media, he mentions that “We have a built-in allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information.” Murrow believes that television is being used as a tool to delude, distract, insulate and amuse us. However the ones sponsoring television and the journalist have a different picture behind the information we receive (Good Night and Good Luck 2005). His speech explained more to the journalists and their responsibility to the society, allowing Murrow to have a stance about the social responsibility theory and inform the journalists that it is their task to properly, truthfully and professionally inform their audiences.
