Creation Myths 2 There are many creation myths from many different cultures that has been passed down through time and generations. This discussion is going to look at the creation myth from the Old Testament and from the Greek Mythology. We will look at how, according to the myths, the world and man were created, who created them and the steps that were taken to do so. We will also look at any similarities and differences these two myths have and why the creation myths are important to the various cultures and what value they bring if any. We will see that while the stories are different, they have many things in common. The Old Testament myth and the Greek myth both describe the creation of the sky and the earth. The Old Testament refers to it as the creation of the Heavens and the Earth while the Greek myth refers to the creation of earth and sky. The Old Testament states that “the earth was formless void and the heavens and the earth were in darkness” ("Bigmyth.com", 2015). The myth describes the creation by God over the course of six days, ending on the sixth day when he created man and woman and then on the seventh day is states that he rested. The Greek myth states that “Gaia, the earth goddess was formed from a raging chaos, which existed before time began. She gave birth to Uranus, the sky, who covered her completely with his starry mantle and they became the first husband and wife” ("Bigmyth.com", 2015).
