What is Ovarian Cancer? (Description) (Louise) What are the types of Ovarian Cancer? (Farrah) There are over 30 different types of ovarian cancer, classified by the type of cells they originate from. Cancerous ovarian tumours tend to start from three cell types: 1. Surface Epithelium cells that cover the outer lining of the ovaries Most common type Usually develops in women older than 50 2. Germ Cells cells that are intended to form eggs. A rare type of ovarian cancer Normally develops in women during adolescence and in women under 40 3. Stromal Cells cells that release hormones (estrogen and progesterone) and connect the different structures of the ovaries usually is seen in women between 40 and 60 years of age
