Deja Pollard 10/01/19 Period 2 Diffusion/Osmosis Lab Report Diffusion and Osmosis Lab Report Purpose The purpose of this lab was to observe how water could move without energy in both diffusion and osmosis. The purpose also was to be able to identify what was gained or loss during transport, as well as being able to identify which bags would be gaining/losing certain substances. Background Research Diffusion and osmosis are both forms of passive transport. Passive transport does not require the use of ATP or energy to move substances. Due to the fact that they are both forms of passive transport, the movement of the molecule will move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. The molecules move with the concentration gradient, which is the reason for no requirement of energy. A difference between diffusion and osmosis is that osmosis is specifically the diffusion of water molecules. Movement of the solvent, which is the particular liquid moving, leads to a net gain or net loss. Although when the solution has an equal amount of solvent and solute on both sides of the membrane, net movement stops. When net movement stops, it indicates that equilibrium has been reached. Diffusion and osmosis both produce

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
