1. How do you think the new and old versions represent different aspects of their societies/times? What are the similarities and differences? They all have the same base storyline but the first movie westside story was more about dancing and singing, it seemed like musicals were a big hit around the time westside story was released. The Romeo and Juliet movie from 1968 I felt was the most accurate of what had happened, it seemed as though they wanted to have a more realistic story that more closely depicted William Shakespeare’s story. 2. How does each version reflect the culture and time period in which they exist? In the 1996 Romeo and Juliet, they used guns and had more gang-style fighting, which is very depictive of the time period that it was released with rap music was a big hit in the world and gangs were becoming more prominent.
