ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY 2 Annotated Bibliography Baker, V. L., & Pifer, M. J. (2011). The role of relationships in the transition from doctor to independent scholar. Studies in Continuing Education, 33 (1), 5-17. This paper highlights research conducted at a top-rated research institution, Baker and Pifer attempts to ascertain connection between student relationships during stage 2 of the doctoral student experience and identity development. The researchers interviewed a total combined population of 31 doctoral students engaged in stage 2 of the doctoral phase and students who had recently completed stage 2. Also noted is the sample population which is from two departments: business and higher education. The researchers concluded that relationships play an important role in a student’s identity as a scholar.
