Jay Curry 10/13/2019 Geography 1001 Climate Change Essay My first action to reduce my carbon footprint and reduce climate change in my community would be to help limit climate change by walking, biking, or using public transportation instead of driving everywhere. When going to campus and classes, I should stop driving to class all the time and start to walk or take the campus shuttle to lessen my carbon footprint. In an article titled The Short Trip with Big Impacts: Walking, Biking and Climate Change it says that “Recent studies have shown that making communities more bike/pedestrian friendly can make a significant contribution to overall greenhouse gas emissions by driving down VMT. (Pg.,2) This is very true and this should be what my community is moving towards, the Umsl community is very commuter friendly and not really Biking or Pedestrian friendly. There isn't a lot of Bike racks on campus and their is not a lot of pedestrian friendly roads in my community and this should change to motivate people to reduce their carbon emissions. If I'm going somewhere farther I don't always have to drive either I can take public transportation or ride a bike. “Public transportation reduces the number of cars in the street...thus helps improve air quality, alleviate traffic congestion, and noise,” says Federal Transit Administration (FTA) officials.(Pg.,1) This is very true because once less cars are on the street this will improve not only the air quality but greenhouse gases on our communities which will eventually help reduce climate change. My community I think would respond to this action great if they live on our close to campus, but
