In my opinion, I would consider “Grocery Store Musical” a theatrical piece. Although it does not adhere to the traditional aspects of theatre , it still grasps the intimacy between the performers and the audience. Within the lecture, there is a quote from Walter Kerr who describes theatre as unpredictable and ever-changing. As our world’s dynamic changes, theatre is always evolving with our creativity. I think this grocery store performance is the exact depiction of that statement. The people in the grocery store were surprised, and the piece itself was unpredictable. It created a sense of “suspense and emotional investment” for the audience that kept them on their toes and excited to witness such a surprising event in an everyday setting. It is also stated in the lecture that “a theatrical piece can take place anywhere-anytime that performers and audience share a space.” In the video, the audience and

It challenges our depiction of traditional scripted theatre because it didn’t take place in a typical stage setting. There was also no specific storyline, and it was carried out specifically for entertainment value. However, it doesn’t take away from the fact it was creative and spontaneous for the audience. In Theatre : the lively art, it states, “The experience of being in the presence of the performer is more important to theatre than anything else ( Goldfarb and Wilson 7).” Theatre has many moving parts, but without an audience, there wouldn't be an emotional motive behind the production.
