Compare and contrast monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy as forms of government in Ancient Greek city-states. Written Assignment Unit 2 submitted on Wednesday, 27 November 2019, 3:16 PM The governing system in the birthplace of democracy in Ancient Greek varied in mainly five common systems. The five most common systems were: Monarchy - ruled by an individual who had inherited his role. Aristocracy – ruled by an aristocrat Tyranny - ruled by an individual who had seized power by unconstitutional means. Oligarchy - ruled by a select group of individuals. Democracy - ruled by the people (male citizens). Today we will compare and contrast monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy each of these terms in the context of the Ancient Greek states and see how they all vary from one another. The ancient Greece city-state Macedon was one in which monarchies flourished from 359 to 168 B.C.E. Here the monarch came from royal family, he lived in the palace and made laws, enforced laws, had the villagers paid him taxes and had his own military to enforce his laws.
