Unicellular Organisms Pre-Lab Questions 1. Identify the major similarities and differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotes tend to be less complex than eukaryotic cells with fewer organelles and fewer requirements for survival. Eukaryotes have a nucleus while prokaryotes do not. Both prokaryotes and eukaryotes have DNA, a cell membrane, and cytoplasm. 2. Where is the DNA housed in a prokaryotic cell? Where is it housed in a eukaryotic cell? The prokaryotic cell is housed throughout the cytoplasm and the eukaryotic cells is housed in the nucleus. 3. Identify three structures which provide support and protection in a eukaryotic cell. First is a cell wall that is firm, rigid structure located outside the plasma membrane of plants, fungi, most bacteria, and some protists. Second is microfilaments that are solid and rod like acting for structural support. Third is microtubules that have structural support for organelles of movement.
