PHIL 1000 Kenneth Raymundo (216298333) Professor: Stefan Rodde TA: Ariane Bakhtiar Thomas Nagel Death February 14, 2019 864 words The summary will be referenced by paragraph number. Death is an Evil – Reflective Summary of Thomas Nagel on Death Summary (1) Death is seen from two perspectives: a dreadful loss, or the fear that death will be premature or painful. It can be said that life is all we have and losing it is the most suffering we can ever experience. And another view is that death is a mere blank with unimaginable conditions, therefore it cannot be positive or negative. (3) Death is evil because of what it takes away. Death ends all the good things that life can ever give us. Death can be seen as good thing only if it can take away conditions of misery and suffering. Although, it is best to live life even when undergoing these terrible experiences. Good always outweighs the bad. (4) The value of life is subjective to everyone. There are two observations: 1) the value of life does not correspond with natural survival; and 2) the value of life can be multiplied by time, similar to goods. People often are attracted to suspending life as it starts to get better. This can cause many disadvantages in social, geographical, and cultural familiarity.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
