1 Raymundo PHIL 1000B Kenneth Raymundo (216298333) Professor: Stefan Rodde TA: Ariane Bakhtiar The Problem of Evil November 27, 2018 725 words Does the Existence of Evil Provide a Good Reason to Believe that God Does Not Exist? There is significant controversy in assuring the existence of god that affects those who believe that such a god exists. The question asks if the existence of evil provides a good reason for thinking that an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent deity does not exist. While John Hick (2001) believes that humans are always developing, John C. Bennett (1938) understands that evil is meant to overcome and given my own beliefs, my answer to the problem of evil is that the existence of evil does not provide a good reason for an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent does not exist. My argument as to why an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent deity can exist in the presence of evil, begins with the philosopher Hick, then Bennett, and concludes with myself. In Hick's (2001) article, he proposes the Irenaean Theodicy as a solution to the problem of evil. He states that the rational and responsible development of human beings is a part of God's plan (Hick 41). God's plan permits evil, so it can be overcome.
