Include at least three factors that contribute to igneous rock textures and any textural clues that can be seen in igneous rocks. Based on texture, I would distinguish an extrusive igneous rocks from intrusive igneous rocks based on their cooling rate. Intrusive igneous rocks cool and solidify beneath the surface. When the magma begins to cool within the Earth, it proceeds slowly. The slow cooling forms large crystals, which are visible within the rocks. Extrusive igneous rocks cool and solidify above the surface. These rocks are also called volcanic rocks because it is formed from a volcano. The extrusive igneous rocks cool at a rapid rate which results into little crystals. Three factors that contribute to the igneous rock texture are color, size of the grains, and distinctive textures.
