Adrienne Unfreed AP History II 7/28/18 Readings vs Film The introduction of western expansion could be seen as America’s sandbox to a land of new discoveries and opportunity. The west became an image of unimaginable economic opportunity with an abundance of natural resources. An influx of migration called for the creation of communities and eventually small towns. The movie takes place in the prospering town of Tombstone, a growing mining camp creating heaping wealth and business in both the film and in real life. Tombstone was a mining town living off the riches of silver. Some towns were not as successful, falling apart into a boom-and-bust cycle. Most of the wealth generated fell into the hands of company owners or investment bankers, which is vaguely shown in the movie, but demonstrates its collection into the town. The expansion of railroads is partially displayed in the film as a growing form of transportation for both individuals and supplies. In
