The one single criticism that I found consistently throughout all the readings was the following thought: James’ pragmatic view of truth requires that a belief is deemed true when its effects are good or when it ‘works’. The premise that just because a thought or idea works for the situation is a misleading concept to believe. An idea without concrete factual basis is not supported just because it held logic in a conversation or situation. The information, depending on the audience, may be taken as truth due to the fact the audience is uneducated in the topic. This concept also ‘works’ additionally on predictions of future events. If I attempted to predict the future of a political election, the prediction would only be considered valuable if it worked out and became truth. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and is why this view of truth is highly criticized. Pragmatism defines truth as a set of beliefs that works for a particular person or group in dealing with reality or accomplishing particular tasks. Pragmatism is problematic as
