Aubrey Cole September 5, 2019 122.01 Module One Homework Question 1: Choose a computer from any of the generations we talked about and write a 200 word summary of its creation and its use (or the general idea and potential uses if it doesn't exist yet). The EDVAC (Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer) was a member of the first generation of computers. The EDVAC was developed by John von Nuemann, a Hungarian-American mathematician, and the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Electrical Engineering. Nuemann was also accompanied by Eckert, Mauchly and other engineers of the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator). The ENIAC was a predecessor to the EDVAC. The EDVAC was first used in 1951 for the United States Army’s Ballistics Research laboratory. This computer performed many basic tasks, using the binary system, like the ENIAC, however it had the ability to store program thus making it more efficient than the ENIAC.
